We are in the last leg of the cyclonic season, which once again hit the Caribbean hard, leaving thousands of people mourning and with a blurry future. Meanwhile, there are still people refusing to accept climate changes are for real, or more cynically think they're not concerned.
Sadly, the Caribbean waters remain dramatically empty outside seasonal activities involving visiting sailors(charters,races) giving the illusion from afar of a sailing paradise, but with on the flip side, a local reality with fewer and fewer people out on the water.
After two days of meetings and presentations, the Zhik America family joined the Volvo Ocean Race family for a visit and more. It was the occasion to get some valued feedback on how Zhik products fared during this 8 month long epic journey.
Zhik is a very young company that managed to gain a lot of traction first with Olympic Sailing, then Americas Cup, and now with Ocean Racing, noticeably sponsoring two Volvo Ocean Race teams. Their annual conference in Newport, RI gives us the opportunity to discover their new line and trends for the future.
Last May, team lukkaiiri got the opportunity to make her first trip to an island outside of the Caribbean. Newport Beach, RI, is an island part of one of the two US island states, the other being Hawaii. This is the first episode of three retracing our journey to the North.
