lukkaiiri was ideated in 2017 after receiving an invitation to race the “Tour de France à la Voile” sailed on Diam 24 OD trimarans. With only a few months to go, and all (family) hands on deck, we started shopping for equipment and sponsors. Alas, to make a long story short, we couldn’t meet the deadlines and decided to pass.
But the name was there - lukkaiiri, Wo/men of the Islands - and it was meant to live on. With this in mind we thought of a business where we could share (as a family) our passion for speed (sailing), pass on some of our experience as professional athletes, and help people discover our playground and homeland, the Caribbean. After contemplating an operational base in Guadeloupe, we incorporated in the US in January 2018 with our headquarters in Miami.
lukkaiiri is the contraction of lukku— men and kaeri— islands; and therefore stands as Arawak for “men of the islands.”
